Sunday 3rd April, the Friuli Homeland Day , becomes the perfect occasion for the inauguration of Reconstructions. Contemporary interpretations of Friulian history : the exhibition organized by IoDeposito at the Prison Tower of the Abbey Complex of Moggio di Sopra. Through eight works by Italian and international artists, the exhibition re-constructs, thanks to the means of contemporary art, the difficult role of limes between the east and west of the world that Friuli Venezia Giulia has played for centuries.

Invasions, foreign dominations, traumatic events but also brackets of socio-cultural splendor dot the past of Friuli Venezia Giulia and have contributed to the definition of the identity of its people. An identity that has been able to draw a strong sense of pride from these events, but also an intimate generosity and openness towards different cultures and peoples.

The works on display are the result of residencies during which each artist was able to explore the area, study its history and get to know its inhabitants, interpreting their cultural substrate. With video art and sound art performances, photographs and installations, the artists bring out the traces and scars of the region's past, reinterpreting them in a new light and promoting fresh insights.

Thus, Beatrice Achille opens up an inner space that surprises us as unaware custodians of the culture of the Patriarchate; Luger and Dunnill create a melody directly connected to the land and rivers of Friuli Venezia Giulia, while Tablazon's photographs lay bare the soul, the past and the history of the places in the region visited by the artist. Furthermore, at the opening of the exhibition on Sunday 3 April, the Italian-Iranian duo formed by Alice Mestriner and Ahad Moslemi will present the installation Elbow tree, an artist's ethnography that investigates the collective memory of the Canal del Ferro-Val Canale area: the couple interacted with local historians, cultural activists, teachers, writers, families, the elderly and young people, elaborating their collective memory. From this intense research work, a kinetic installation full of meaning has taken shape, whose mechanical arm incessantly mixes the earth from Italy, Austria and Slovenia: a symbol of the perpetual movement that over the centuries has seen the integration of people and languages in extreme northeastern Italy.
